Talking to Sage’s Director of People and Culture Theresa Fesinstine, it’s clear that Sage is more than a real estate firm — it’s a company that cares. Sage cares about its tenants, about New Yorkers, and about prioritizing the wellbeing of their community. And it cares most of all about its employees, also known as the Sage Ensemble. To protect its workforce during the COVID-19 outbreak, Sage needed to find an equally compassionate partner in healthcare. They found it in Eden Health.
Eden Health is a nationally recognized medical practice on a mission to create a world where every person has a relationship with a trusted healthcare provider. Working with employers across the country, Eden Health’s Care Team offers employees 24/7 digital care, same-day in-person primary care, mental health services and benefits navigation.
Though Sage enlisted Eden’s help to combat the immediate problems posed by the pandemic, their employee care breakdown illustrates how Eden will continue to be a partner for them down the line: Virtual primary care accounted for 56% of Sage’s care episodes, navigation and care coordination accounted for 30%, mental health care accounted for 12%, and in-person care accounted for 2% of employee care needs.
As the pandemic recedes, Sage is looking forward to a new era of wellness driven by Eden’s ongoing partnership.
SEEKING A SOLUTION
When the coronavirus outbreak first hit, Sage was shaken. “It was a really hard time because we wanted to provide help — we were worried,” says Fesinstine. “This was pre-Eden, and it was one of the most stressful times in my career.”
“To keep my people safe and comply with CDC and OSHA guidelines, I needed to track temperatures and ask the qualifying [COVID-19 screener] questions. But I was not willing to ask my team members to stand in front of people who may have COVID and take their temperatures. Our healthcare provider didn’t have any option for the health check, and at our size, telehealth wasn’t an option. I learned that a fellow HR colleague used Eden Health and she highly recommended we talk.”
AN EXPERT SOURCE
As well as being a medical provider, Eden strives to be a source of trusted information tailored to HR. Beyond information sharing, Eden was able to provide Sage with real-time insights into the health of their workforce. The Eden employer dashboard allowed Sage to view the results of active daily monitoring screenings, COVID-19 test results, and who was onsite on any given day, all in one place.
UTILIZATION AND SAVINGS
To say that Eden has been popular with the Sage workforce would be an understatement: in Eden’s first year with the company:
- 98.7% of employees registered with Eden
- 97.4% have engaged with their Care Team
- One out of every eight Sage workers have registered their dependents to receive Eden care
- Sage employees gave Eden a rave patient satisfaction score of 4.88 out of 5
For HR teams like Sage’s, open enrollment is a time of high demand as employees flood the department with questions. Eden provides employees with a team of healthcare navigators who are dedicated to answering insurance questions and helping with paperwork that alleviates burdens on HR. Eden also helped show employees how to save money on their coverage, which helps reduce healthcare costs for companies like Sage.
A TRUSTED PARTNER IN CARE
Looking back, Fesinstine is grateful for the steady guidance and calm assurance Eden offered as the pandemic set in. “Even though everything was happening for the first time, it felt like Eden had already been there. They brought a sense of calm to panic that I just hadn’t had. I really do believe that Eden saved my sanity,” she said. “I am a huge advocate of Eden and continue to be their partner because in a time of crisis, they were there. I can only imagine everything they’ll be able to provide when the crisis has passed.”
